CPLP and G20 citizens exempt from paying tourism and business visas

Passaporte

Citizens of CPLP – Community of Portuguese Language Countries and G20 (group consisting of the world’s 19 largest economies plus the European Union) are now exempt from paying business or tourism visas for trips until 30 days to Angola, according to the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano.

CPLP consists of nine member states: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste.
The G20 is composed of 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America) and the European Union.

This measure is part of a legislative package aimed at stimulating and revitalizing the economy. José de Lima Massano also announced measures to support exports, such as the Single Support Window for Exporters, and land access with the Single Window for Land Rights Concession, which will facilitate land access and registration. According to the minister, “there are various entities involved in the export process, not always with the necessary coordination, which sometimes leads to losing space for placing products in the domestic market, hindering the path to diversify the economy and generate foreign exchange”. Regarding commercial activities, prior authorization will no longer be required for activities that do not require a commercial license, just communication to the municipal authority. José de Lima Massano stressed that the government wants these measures to take effect as soon as possible, without specifying deadlines but setting the end of 2023 as a limit.

Site visit – Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter

The consulting team from LBC made a visit to the Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter, located in the province of Cuanza-Sul, in the context of pinpointing investment opportunities. On site, Gesterra managers, who oversee the administration and promotion of investment opportunities within Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter, accompanied the LBC team during the tour through the large agricultural premises. The main purpose of the visit was to gather critical information, as well as to evaluate the quality of investment prospects associated with this Integrated Project, featured on InvestAngola website.

By guaranteeing water for fertile lands in Cuanza-Sul, along with necessary equipment, this significant hub for agricultural production of cotton and native crops aims to enhance food security and income generation for families in the region, but also to contribute to Angola overall economy. The visiting team had the opportunity to explore the different areas, such as the central nucleus with its specialized infrastructures, the pumping stations and reservoirs, the electrical substation or the maintenance workshop and warehouses; and the rural village with the projection of 250 houses (with 85 agricultural social housing already concluded).

Currently the Sumbe Irrigated Perimeter houses eight communities, encompassing approximately 400 families who have begun to experimentally cultivate crops, with a particular focus on watermelon and maize.

Meanwhile, a new funding program is to be launched, as part of the cooperation agreement between Gesterra and FADA – Fundo de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Agrário (Agricultural Development Support Fund). In this program, which aims to stimulate part of the region, 100 recent Agronomy graduates will each receive 2 hectares of land, a house, and 5 million Kwanzas.
